Out and About Volunteer Receives Award from Governor Douglas for Outstanding Service At Out and About Adult Day Service in Morrisville everyone knows her as “Gracie”. Now the whole state of Vermont knows about her as well.

Amelia Grace Littlefield was honored at the Healthy Aging Awards Ceremony held at the state house on November 24, 2009. Governor James Douglas and the Commissioner of the Department of Aging and Independent Living, Joan Senegal, presented Gracie with the “Bridging the Generation Gap” award. She was recognized for her continued volunteer service to varied age groups, spanning from children to elders.

Gracie was one of 12 recipients in the state of Vermont to receive an award at the ceremony. She was selected after being nominated by Gibby Berry, the former Volunteer Coordinator at Out and About Adult Day Service. Berry has worked with Gracie for the last seven years. “She is inspiration to all of us and she definitely deserved to be recognized,” stated Berry.

At 96 years old, Gracie is an inspiration.She is an active volunteer at Out and About Adult Day service where she entertains with her accordion and harmonica, leads sing-a-longs and story telling. She also serves her church, Stowe Community Church, by volunteering as an usher and a Sunday school teacher to pre-school-aged children. She is also involved in many other community functions and is a regular entertainer at the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration held by McCarthy’s Restaurant in Stowe.

Gracie attributes her energy, enthusiasm and commitment as a volunteer to her faith in God. “I just like being with people,” she says with a smile.
