Our History

In April of 1986 (Out & About) the Lamoile Area Adult Day Care Center opened its doors at the Senior Center to 3 participants (clients) 3 days a week. By October, 1986, the average enrollment increased to 15. At that time it was decided to find a larger location and to change the unofficial name "Out & About"

In June the Center leased and moved to the Farr House adjacent to Copley Hospital. Nola Danslow was hired as its 1st part time Executive Director position. She was responsible for creating Visual Arts and Writing programs, which enabled participants to give successful art shows and have their written words published in the "Solstice Review" in 1989, 1990 and 1992.

Participants, Staff and Volunteers also made an Out&About float for several July 4th parades in Morrisville. In 1992, Out & About purchased and moved into its current location with the help of community in-kind services, staff and volunteers. It opened its doors in August of that year.

In March, 1993, Glo Webel was hired as part time Executive Director. She followed in the footsteps of former Executive Directors: Nola Denslow and Jackie Gale in incorporating continued creative outlets and influences in the overall program. Under her guidance at the new locale the center opened its first "Art Gallery" with gala 10th anniversary/ open house party in 1996.

With increased space capacity came an increase in clients of 18-25 participants daily. Staff capacity and numbers has grown and changed with the times too. We now have a full time RN to monitor participant's health care needs and a Transportation Manager to coordinate van services to and from the Center, a Kitchen Manager & Kitchen Staff for more meals and snacks and beverages, an Activity/ Volunteer Coordinator and LNA trained Program Assistants to run daily activity programs and Personal Care Services.

Ten in all! From 1996 to 2006, the Center has undergone several building improvements, renovations and expansions to accommodate from 25 to 50 people a day!

Two new ramps, entryway's, new windows, lighting fixtures and engaged gallery space has made the Center into a "fun place to play and stay for the day!" In closing this brief and humble history of Out & About, one is reminded of the importance of adult day care centers within the community at large, as well as to the individuals they serve.
